There’s no place like home…

There really is no place like home, especially for the holidays. But let’s admit, it is a bit of a relief when January hits and the holiday craze winds down. It’s time for nesting by day and hunkering down with a good book or movie by night. The season also marks a new start, a reboot, time to freshen up a bit. This year I am going to clean through some of the “stuff” we have accumulated over the years. With a Marie Kondo approach, if it doesn’t serve a purpose or spark joy… it’s out. The trick will be discerning the level of joy and which things are true treasures.

Helping others sort through their items is so much easier than doing it for myself. That is the value of an in home consultation. Not being personally tied to a clients treasures allows for an objective approach not only to the piece but to the clients reaction to the piece as well. During a consultation, when the client is showing me all the art, photos, and collectibles we have to work with, there is a clear body language shift when we hit the treasure jackpot. In that moment I know we are looking at something that should be framed and displayed in a prominent position for daily enjoyment. The moment it is pointed out to them, a sense of relief washes over them at the realization that they almost overlooked something of great importance. It is so interesting and really a privilege to see inside someone else’s world. What makes them tick and what treasures have the most meaning.

Home is knowing your heart, knowing your mind, knowing your courage.
— Glinda the Good Witch from the 1978 film, The Wiz

We recently had the pleasure of framing an incredible treasure. A beloved client and collector brought in a prototype pinafore that Judy Garland herself, wore during the making of The Wizard of Oz. Her excitement was palpable and because this piece was so near and dear to our client’s heart, she chose to frame it with the most exquisite choices. Making the garment the star of the show, we chose a white plush mat that conjures up an old cinema in a modern, fresh way. A Rhonda Feinman gold leaf with blue clay finished corner frame added deco inspired detail without overpowering. The frame was milled to account for extra depth, putting even more custom in the custom framing.

The second piece to this project was a Wizard of Oz poster signed by the cast. The design included a custom acrylic frame. It looks modern, yet soft and glowing—truly magical. The framing was of the caliber warranted by such important pieces of motion picture history. They are both now hanging in our client’s home for her to enjoy. They are stunning and it was a gift to us to have the honor of framing them!

Not everyone owns a collectible from The Wizard of Oz, but we all do have treasures. Making the decision to honor our most prized possessions, memorabilia and inspired artwork is a decision to turn an object into an heirloom. We have seen the joy on many occasions when a clients most near and dear object gets framed properly. Not only is the piece properly preserved but it is now part of the beauty in their home. Making the space they dwell in that much more unique and personal to them.

Whether it be gift giving or something for yourself, adorning your walls with your treasures is an important step in making your space yours. The most beautiful spaces are those that feel connected to someone. Pretty interiors are lovely, but without inspiration they can quickly fall flat. So, do not underestimate the power of honoring your treasures.

Cheers to a New Year and inspired living in 2026.
